The last members of our group were set to arrive the following morning, giving us the opportunity to head back to Reykjavik and explore their largest city as we awaited their arrival. Having to leave the vast wilderness and return to civilization weighed harder on some of us, inciting bitter quips all day as to why we were here ;) As we explored the city and got a sense of what the typical day was like for an Icelandic citizen, we saw tons of graffii, their iconic church, did our laundry, and relaxed at our hostel.
After checking into our hostel, our first stop was the Sun Voyager. “A natural wonder carved over time from river flow and volcanic activity, only to be found in the most remote regions of Iceland” as one of our more bitter members pointed out. A ode to the sun, the boat resembles freedom, hope, and the promise of undiscovered territory.
As we ventured around the city, it become quite clear how accepting of graffiti and wall art the Icelandic people were. Buildings, fences, construction, houses, windows, nothing was free from creative expression.

The largest church in Iceland.
Having camped for four nights straight really reminds you of how appreciative you should be of an actual bed and pillow. Since we were in the city for one night awaiting our final group, we splurged and decided to grab a hostel for the night. Kex was apparently the place to be in terms of hostels, with an open bar/restaurant/library/common area, there was always something going on and a great way to end our day in the capital.
