Without planning ahead of time, the majority of our off-roading and destinations were picked based on how it looked on Google Maps, Instagram pictures we had seen, and after we figured out what it was, the “cool shit sign”. For the first two days we had seen numerous signs pointing into the wilderness at what seemed like nothing. As it turns out, our biggest mistake was not having enough time to go on all of these. Note to anyone heading off to Iceland, if you see this sign, turn down this road. Always.

The Golden Circle, a common trek done by many travelers that gives you a glimpse into what Iceland has to offer: geysers, waterfalls, national parks, the Eyrie (for those Game of Throne fans), craters, and tectonic rifts.
En route form Gulfoss out to Haifoss we drove past a random sign that had no words, just a simple squiggly symbol. Having no idea what to expect, we took the detour off the main road out of pure curiosity and stumbled across one of the most scenic overlooks of the entire trip.
No name, not on the map, just a sign that means cool shit here.
Adventuring out to Haifoss truly sold us on taking F Roads into the wilderness as far as we could go. Crossing numerous rivers, muddy patches, and miles along power line trails, we managed to make it to Haifoss; an epic waterfall with nothing but nature in every direction. It was such a beautiful site, we couldn’t resist just setting up camp right there at the top of the waterfall. Nothing says vacation like peanut butter and nutella sandwichs and a bottle of wine as you overlook the Icelandic countryside.
