Iceland? Let’s Go! … and that’s about all the planning that went into a 17 day trek across one of the most beautiful countries in the world. We figured no plan was the best plan, and we weren’t wrong in the least. Seven people, four tents, two cars, and one trip into the Land of Fire and Ice.

The flight was timed perfectly coming into the country, the sunrise breaching the horizon for over an hour as we came in to land, giving you that initial glimmer of an an awesome trip yet to come. However, as soon as you breach the clouds and get on to the runway, a rainy, cloudy, overcast day was waiting to tell us otherwise, putting a slight damper on everyone’s moods as we shuttled to get our car. Fortunately, this turned out to be some of the “worst” weather we would see in the next two weeks to come. After picking up our Subaru Forrester and hotspot (best decision of the trip), we headed towards Reykjavik for supplies before heading off into the unknown.
The local discount market Bónus was the cheapest and easiest way to get supplies for longer treks and backpacking trips, but to this day, we still can not determine why their mascot is a pig that looks as though he got his stuff handed to him. We shall never know. After getting situated, we headed off around the Golden Circle to find waterfalls, geysers, canyons, Jurassic Park, sheep, horses, and the continental divide.
